Interior Fit-Out | Early Child Care Education Center | Highly Efficient Heat Pump | Energy Recovery Ventilation System | Sustainable Design with Superior Acoustic Performance

Architect: Canter Design and Construction

SAI Engineers designed the MEP/FP system for a daycare facility located in Plainsboro, NJ. This project is highly focused on minimizing cost while maintaining sustainability, comfort, and system control. HVAC and plumbing equipment is existing for reuse. All systems are designed with energy efficiency and maintainability in mind, meeting or exceeding applicable New Jersey building and energy codes.

The HVAC design includes a zoned system tailored to support comfort and air quality across classrooms, administrative offices, and common areas. Ventilation rates are designed in accordance with ASHRAE 62.1 and NJ energy code requirements. Special consideration is given to maintaining low noise levels in all occupied areas—particularly classrooms and nap rooms—to support a quiet, nurturing environment appropriate for young children.

The plumbing design includes domestic cold and hot water systems, sanitary drainage, and provisions for child-friendly fixtures, bottle-washing stations, and accessible restrooms. Hot water systems are designed to maintain safe temperatures for use in childcare facilities.

A fully compliant fire protection system is provided, including a sprinkler layout in accordance with NFPA 13 and local code requirements. Coordination with architectural and structural elements ensures unobstructed coverage and code-compliant system routing.

Electrical systems include power distribution, interior lighting design, emergency lighting, exit signage, and fire alarm systems. Lighting is designed for both energy efficiency and child-appropriate brightness levels. All systems are designed to meet NEC and New Jersey energy codes.
